Pakistan’s space program reached new heights on May 8th with the successful deployment of its lunar satellite, iCube Qamar. This small but mighty satellite, launched aboard China’s Chang’e-6 spacecraft, is now orbiting the Moon, capturing images from a unique 12-hour elliptical path.

Developed by the Institute of Space Technology (IST) in collaboration with Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and Suparco, iCube Qamar marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s space exploration journey. This mission showcases the country’s growing expertise in CubeSats, miniature satellites ideal for various scientific missions.

Equipped with two cameras and essential control systems, iCube Qamar promises to deliver valuable data and imagery of the lunar surface. Led by IST faculty and students, this project is a testament to Pakistan’s dedication to space research and collaboration with international partners.
